OVERVIEW
Discussions about education are everywhere. Are American kids falling behind their world peers? Are teachers unions or poverty to blame for low achievement? How does the internet and social media change the educational equation? Is military Professional Military Education of the past sufficient for future conflicts?
We will explore these and other education related questions with special guest Christopher Yanov. A little over a decade ago, he started a non-profit with $300. Now, Reality Changers sends at-risk kids with no family history of college to the best universities in the country, garnering over $25 million in scholarship money along the way. As a completely independently funded non-profit, Reality Changers is giving hope to ignored communities, and providing opportunity at a grassroots level for those forgotten by the system. Chris was recently named as one of San Diego’s most influential power brokers, and has been recognized nationwide for his innovative educational programming.
Our discussions will focus on how to best leverage existing technologies and new theories of teaching to not just create the smartest kids, but impart the creativity necessary for a world defined by rapid change.
