Title: Captain of Marines, DT Blog Author

Hometown: San Diego

Disruptive Thinking in Action:

Mike is a Marine Officer currently deployed to Afghanistan as an Air Officer with 1st ANGLICO, based out of Camp Pendleton. He is embedded with the Republic of Georgia’s 32nd Infantry Battalion and helping them integrate into the Marine Corps Area of Operations. He works in a dynamic and kinetic environment alongside a non-English speaking country with a traditional Warsaw Pact structure and leadership style that is much different than is found in typical Western militaries. The success of his team’s 7 month deployment will depend on their ability to work, live and fight alongside a very different culture and to simultaneously attack problems from new angles while accepting non-traditional solutions and challenging existing paradigms.

Defining Disruptive Thinking:

The act of thinking outside the box, while keeping one’s focus on a specific goal or end state.

If money was no obstacle WORLD CHANGE should begin with…

Everyone speaking the same language. The ability to communicate is a basic, but important step in solving the world’s problems.

The APPEAL of Disruptive Thinkers:

Mike believes at their core, the military’s best people are pragmatic and detail oriented problem solvers. However, of those, only a few are able to combine their ability to lead and “get things done” with the ability to think outside the box. Disruptive Thinkers represents those very few.
