OVERVIEW

Both entrepreneurial CEO’s and successful, combat experienced servicemembers have a high tolerance for risk. Both have an ability to adapt to the unknown. Both have to effectively lead teams through challenging situations with innovative thinking. Both can learn valuable lessons from the other.

Yet, rarely do the members of these realms meet. We seek to change this. Our organizations believe there are valuable, mutual lessons to be learned from each other.

The entrepreneurial culture embraced by the 21st Century’s most successful boardrooms are desperately needed in an antiquated military bureaucracy. The innovative combat leadership learned on high stress, high risk battlefields is incredibly valuable to CEO’s looking to motivate employees. By linking military members with young, successful CEO’s, mutual mentorship can bring the best of each culture to the other.

How It Works

This trial program will begin by matching 5 junior military leaders from the San Diego area with 5 successful CEO’s under 40. Disruptive Thinkers will compile and evaluate the military applicants, looking for forward-thinking innovators with combat experience. GenNext will select non-veteran CEO’s with a proven track record of innovative excellence.

Pairs will be matched based on mutual interests and compatible future goals, as determined by the matching board. This board will be composed of three members of each organization

The mutual mentorship will take place over the course of a year, with both members committing to at least 6 bi-monthly meetings. Two meetings will be in the business environment, two in the military environment and two social meetups. These interactions can take any form the participants feel appropriate: job shadowing, industry/military briefs, etc. As a mutual mentorship program, both should gain a greater understanding of their partner’s organization, and exchange transferrable, synergistic lessons. Further networking and socializing is encouraged beyond the minimum requirements.

All 10 participants will meet for a formal kick-off event, a six-month social event and an end-of-year commencement. These will be hosted by both Disruptive Thinkers and GenNext, and will have an outside speaker who spans both fields as a guest.

Additionally, throughout the year, evaluations of the partnerships will take place by the project coordinators.  This will encompass surveys and face to face interviews.
